The highlight would definitely be a ceremony at the Botanical Gardens by the Opera House followed by drinks at Opera Bar and dinner reception at Quay Restaurant. Drinks and canapés overlooking Sydney Harbour and catching up with friends has definitely topped my list as far as weddings goes. Congrats to Venessa & Eric, the newly-weds!
Quay had the most amazing canapés, how's this.. sea scallop pearl with lime, cucumber and fennel that were perfectly shaped into tiny balls of oh so soft, silky and sweet yummy delights (I think I had about 5 of these), thin and crispy crostini topped with smoked ocean trout, creme fraiche and lemon marmalade and wait for it.. the most amazing truffle, hazelnut, farro and taleggio arancini balls I have ever had. Thinly coated with a crispy batter slightly dusted with parmesan cheese with a hint of salt, these balls of oh-my-goodness encased the fluffiest and creamiest risotto! Heaven! Needless to say that the three-course meal that followed did not disappoint. The absolute highlight of the evening (other than the actual wedding of course!) would have to be the 'Jackfruit granita, Jackfruit ice-cream, Jackfruit puree, Vanilla cream' dessert. If there is a dessert heaven, then this is it..
It goes without saying that Quay is well deserving of it's three hat status and has recently been named "The Best Restaurant in Australasia"! With a current waiting list of 22 weeks for a table of four at 8pm (Gourmet Traveller), you will have to wait patiently for that 8 texture chocolate cake or infamous jackfruit snow-egg. But my-god it's worth it!
